SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 4
BY SENATOR PEACOCK 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Hunter Hopkins on his numerous accomplishments, his
exemplary academic achievements, and on being honored as a recipient of the LSU
University Medal.
WHEREAS, the LSU University Medal is LSU's highest academic achievement and
was bestowed on only 11 of the 1,582 graduates in the fall commencement on December 20,
2013; and
WHEREAS, Hunter Hopkins, 2010 valedictorian at Byrd High School in Shreveport,
was one of the medal recipients and made straight As, maintained a 4.0 grade point average,
and graduated summa cum laude at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, while at Byrd High School, Hunter Hopkins was involved in the
National Honor Society, Beta Club, French Club, Key Club, and Lyle's Leaders, a very
selective club that teaches different styles of leadership; and
WHEREAS, at LSU, Hunter majored in biology (pre-med) and minored in business
administration; and
WHEREAS, he was involved in Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-med honor society, and
the Student Christian Medical Association, and through the SCMA, went on medical mission
trips to Peru and the Dominican Republic; and
WHEREAS, he worked in the research lab of Dr. William Stickles while at LSU and
attended the Marine Biology summer abroad program in Alaska with Dr. Stickles; and
WHEREAS, he volunteered with St. Joseph Hospice while a student at Louisiana
State University in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, he was accepted and will be attending Louisiana State University
School of Medicine in New Orleans in the fall; and 
WHEREAS, Hunter Hopkins has always been an exemplary role model for other

WHEREAS, his achievements, vast knowledge, and academic distinction make him
worthy of emulation and public recognition; and 
WHEREAS, he deserves to be recognized, honored, and respected for his exemplary
academic achievements as well as his deeds to improve and make a positive impact in his
city, campus, and state; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
of great young men like Hunter Hopkins.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby recognizes the numerous accomplishments and extraordinary academic record of
Hunter Hopkins and hereby extends many congratulations and commendations to him on
being honored as a recipient of the LSU University Medal.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Hunter Hopkins.
