SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 43
BY SENATOR DORSEY-COLOMB 
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the State Capitol.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Louisiana State University for its one
hundred fifty years of service and excellence in higher education and to recognize Monday,
April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, LSU is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution, is designated
as a Research University (Very High Research Activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the
Advancement of Teaching, and performs research for the benefit of the United States and
the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, LSU is the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana; and 
WHEREAS, LSU was the first public university in Louisiana to adopt admission
standards requiring successful completion of a high school college preparatory curriculum;
and
WHEREAS, LSU offers degrees in seventy-two baccalaureate programs,
seventy-eight master's programs, and fifty-three doctoral programs, and the institution has
awarded more than one hundred thousand degrees since its inception; and
WHEREAS, LSU instituted the "Pelican Promise" need-based aid program so that
students of the most dire financial condition may receive the benefits of higher education and
participate fully in our society and economy; and
WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of this state and nation have contributed
to the support of the university, and Louisiana State University in turn provides a quality
education, basic and applicable research, and valuable public service. SR NO. 43	ENROLLED

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the State Capitol, does hereby
record for posterity the extraordinary accomplishments and manifold contributions of the
institution's administration, staff, faculty, and students, and does hereby extend enduring
appreciation for the university's outstanding leadership in higher education in the state of
Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to F.
King Alexander, chancellor of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
