SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46
BY SENATOR BROOME 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Alyssa Carson on her academic and other notable
achievements.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Alyssa Carson on her academic and other notable achievements.2
WHEREAS, at the age of three years old Alyssa Carson wanted to fulfill her dream3
of becoming an astronaut and has been making strides toward her goal; and4
WHEREAS, she has attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, seventeen times,5
Space Academy three times, and Robotics Academy one time; and6
WHEREAS, Alyssa has won numerous competitions and awards while at the various7
camps; and8
WHEREAS, she has attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sally Ride9
Camp and has witnessed three shuttle launches and engine test firings at Stennis Space10
Center, NASA; and 11
WHEREAS, in August of 2012, Alyssa was one of few invited to attend an12
international space camp in Turkey; and13
WHEREAS, the following year she was honored with the invitation to attend a space14
camp in Canada, becoming the first person to attend all three NASA Space Camps; and15
WHEREAS, Alyssa was the only American child in attendance at the Canadian16
Space Camp which gave her the opportunity to practice her quadrilingual language skills;17

WHEREAS, she can fluently read, write, and speak Spanish, French, Chinese,1
Turkish and English, her native language; and2
WHEREAS, in October 2013 Alyssa was honored during a ceremony at the Kennedy3
Space Center for becoming the first person to complete the NASA Passport Program, which4
required her to visit all fourteen NASA Visitor Centers in the United States; and 5
WHEREAS, NASA invited her to participate on the MER 10 Panel in Washington,6
D.C. to discuss future missions to Mars in the 2030s, serving as the only child on the panel;7
and8
WHEREAS, Alyssa's dream is to be the first, or one of the first, humans to visit9
Mars; and10
WHEREAS, she is well on her way to achieving her goals; and11
WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the school year Alyssa will travel to Greece to be12
a TEDx speaker at the Kalamata Conference, to Izmir Turkey to view her exhibit that is on13
display in their museum, and then to speak at a space camp in Turkey; and14
WHEREAS, Alyssa will also attend an international space camp in France where she15
will meet with the dean to discuss obtaining her master's degree upon completing her16
undergraduate work at the University of Cambridge; and 17
WHEREAS, her summer will conclude with a trip to the Netherlands where she will18
serve as a Mars One Ambassador, then to Belgium where she will train for a week with the19
European Space Agency, to Stennis Space Center, the National Flight Academy in20
Pensacola, and finally the Virginia Flight Academy in Wallops Island, Virginia; and21
WHEREAS, Alyssa attends the Baton Rouge International School and is a shining22
star for the state of Louisiana who has achieved accolades during her adolescents that will23
prepare her for her very promising future.24
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana25
does hereby commend and congratulate Alyssa Carson on her outstanding academic and26
notable achievements.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to28
