Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To commend Alyssa Carson on her academic and other notable achievements. WHEREAS, at the age of three years old Alyssa Carson wanted to fulfill her dream of becoming an astronaut and has been making strides toward her goal; and WHEREAS, she has attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, seventeen times, Space Academy three times, and Robotics Academy one time; and WHEREAS, Alyssa has won numerous competitions and awards while at the various camps; and WHEREAS, she has attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sally Ride Camp and has witnessed three shuttle launches and engine test firings at Stennis Space Center, NASA; and WHEREAS, in August of 2012, Alyssa was one of few invited to attend an international space camp in Turkey; and WHEREAS, the following year she was honored with the invitation to attend a space camp in Canada, becoming the first person to attend all three NASA Space Camps; and WHEREAS, Alyssa was the only American child in attendance at the Canadian Space Camp which gave her the opportunity to practice her quadrilingual language skills; and WHEREAS, she can fluently read, write, and speak Spanish, French, Chinese, Turkish and English, her native language; and WHEREAS, in October 2013 Alyssa was honored during a ceremony at the Kennedy Space Center for becoming the first person to complete the NASA Passport Program, which required her to visit all fourteen NASA Visitor Centers in the United States; and WHEREAS, NASA invited her to participate on the MER 10 Panel in Washington, D.C., to discuss future missions to Mars in the 2030s, serving as the only child on the panel; and WHEREAS, Alyssa's dream is to be the first, or one of the first, humans to visit Mars; and SR NO. 46 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, she is well on her way to achieving her goals; and WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the school year Alyssa will travel to Greece to be a TEDx speaker at the Kalamata Conference, to Izmir, Turkey, to view her exhibit that is on display in their museum, and then to speak at a space camp in Turkey; and WHEREAS, Alyssa will also attend an international space camp in France where she will meet with the dean to discuss obtaining her master's degree upon completing her undergraduate work at the University of Cambridge; and WHEREAS, her summer will conclude with a trip to the Netherlands where she will serve as a Mars One Ambassador, then to Belgium where she will train for a week with the European Space Agency, to Stennis Space Center, the National Flight Academy in Pensacola, and finally the Virginia Flight Academy in Wallops Island, Virginia; and WHEREAS, Alyssa attends the Baton Rouge International School and is a shining star for the state of Louisiana who has achieved accolades during her adolescents that will prepare her for her very promising future. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Alyssa Carson on her outstanding academic and notable achievements. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Alyssa Carson. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
