WHEREAS, in August 2013 two high schools, L.B. Landry and O. Perry Walker,
combined in a state-of-the-art facility in Algiers to form L.B. Landry-O. Perry Walker
College and Career Preparatory High School, now Landry-Walker High School; and
WHEREAS, the move to consolidation, despite the concerns and controversy among
residents of Algiers, produced new consolidated teams for all sports, the band, cheerleaders,
and the student body as a whole; and
WHEREAS, having only been performing together for the current school year, since
the consolidation of their school, the varsity cheer squad took first in the advanced category
at the WSA cheerleading competition in New Orleans this spring; and
WHEREAS, the cheerleading squad states in its mission statement that they stand
in support of their teammates and their coaches and hold each other to the standard of
supporting the school athletic teams, representing their school in a positive light at all times,
and always representing themselves as winners; and
WHEREAS, head coach of the cheerleaders, Glenn Caston and his staff came from
Walker and were pleasantly surprised by the talent of the combined squad; and
WHEREAS, the team practices six days a week, and on school days the students
attend study hall for an hour and a half, followed by between two and a half and three hours
of practice; and
WHEREAS, cheer practice goes beyond merely cheer moves and technique, but
includes etiquette, character-building, and other life skills; and
WHEREAS, many of the girls consider time management an essential skill in order
to juggle a demanding practice schedule, performances, and maintaining good grades; and SR NO. 47	ENROLLED

national competition; and
WHEREAS, having taken first place in the WSA championship, Caston believes that
the team can continue to improve its skills and performance, setting their goal to perform
well at the next competition in Pensacola, Florida, on April 12; and
WHEREAS, in competition, the team focuses on performing at its best and making
