SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 52
BY SENATORS PETERSON, ALARI O AND WALSWORTH 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson for over twenty-four years of
dedicated public service representing the city of New Orleans as a district
councilmember, state representative, and councilmember-at-large.
WHEREAS, Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson has served the citizens of New Orleans
first as the District "C" Councilmember, then as state representative of District 102, and also
as councilmember-at-large as both president and vice president; and
WHEREAS, she was elected to serve as the District "C" councilmember in 1990 and
2002; and 
WHEREAS, Jackie was a Louisiana legislator, representing District 102 in the
House of Representatives from 1994-2002 and as a state representative, she was recognized
for her leadership, championing landmark legislation that focused on women's health and
safety, ethics and government reform, fiscal reform, education, child protection, law
enforcement, and neighborhood preservation; and
WHEREAS, as a councilmember, she is focused on public safety, quality of life,
historic preservation, economic development and has worked on major changes in the city's
charter to include the Inspector General and Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson was elected councilmember-at-large in a
special election in November 2007 and reelected councilmember-at-large in February 2010;
and 
WHEREAS, she helped lead the creation of Federal City to retain vital military
installations in New Orleans and redeveloped the Fischer Project into a neighborhood, one
of the first in the country; and
WHEREAS, Jackie, a licensed realtor/broker, has been a businesswoman for over
forty-three years, has run two major companies and was president of the Louisiana Realtors
Association; and
WHEREAS, Jackie and her husband, Arthur "Buzz" Clarkson, are natives of New
Orleans and have raised five daughters and have ten grandchildren; and SR NO. 52	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
of extraordinary women of great character and dedication like Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby commends and congratulates Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson for over twenty-four years
of dedicated public service representing the city of New Orleans as a state representative,
district councilmember and councilmember-at-large.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson.
