Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65 BY SENATOR CROWE A RESOLUTION To urge and request the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development to study increasing the per pupil amount spent on vocational agriculture, agribusiness, and agriscience programs in Louisiana. WHEREAS, R.S. 17:181 provides that effective with the 1997-1998 school year and thereafter, the governing authority of each public secondary school shall allocate annually to each secondary school in the school system, in addition to any other funding, not less than fifty dollars per student enrolled at the school in a vocational agriculture, agribusiness, or agriscience program for use in providing adequate instructional materials and supplies for such students; and WHEREAS, last year, according to the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Louisiana's farmers and ranchers generated over eleven billion dollars in income, which is a Louisiana record; and WHEREAS, agricultural and agribusiness education is essential for the continued development of this important business sector of Louisiana's economy; and WHEREAS, over fifteen years have passed since Louisiana increased the minimum amount the governing authority of each public secondary school allocates for each pupil enrolled in a vocational agriculture, agribusiness, or agriscience program. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development to study increasing the per pupil amount spent on vocational agriculture, agribusiness, and agriscience programs in Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development and the state superintendent of education.
