SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78
BY SENATOR LONG 
A RESOLUTION
To commend the coaches, players, and staff of the Northwestern State University Lady
Demons basketball team upon their excellent 2013-2014 basketball season that
culminated in the Southland Conference Tournament title, earning them an invitation
to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament for the first time since 2004.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana and the Senate of the
Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the exceptional accomplishments of the 2013-2014
Northwestern State Lady Demons basketball team; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Demons had an outstanding show of victories in the Southland
Conference Tournament: first beating Nicholls; then Lamar; and finally Stephen F. Austin
in the championship game, propelling them to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament;
and
WHEREAS, players Amy Staha, Emily Spector, Keisha Lee, Breanna Fuller,
Chelsea Rogers, Janelle Perez, Meredith Graf, Presley Owens, Arianne Ausmer,
Jasmine Bradley, Beatrice Attura, Trudy Armstead, Breonna O'Conner, Kourtney Pennywell,
and Robin Richardson, under the tutelage of co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr and
assistant coaches Learie Sandy and Kasondra Foreman, superb play during the 2013-2014
season, gave them an overall record of twenty-one wins and thirteen losses, a conference
record of eleven wins and seven losses, and a non-conference record of ten wins and six
losses; and
WHEREAS, the work of trainer Alex Moran, graduate manager Alexis Popelar,
graduate manager, student manager Ashlie Dowden, student assistant Amber Sanders, sports
information contact Matthew Fowler, and administrative assistant Chassity Curry was also
vital to the Demons' successful season; and
WHEREAS, as a result of their outstanding season record and their Southland
Conference win, the Lady Demons were invited to continue in post-season play in the
Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament; and SR NO. 78	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, although the sixteenth-seeded Lady Demons lost to the number one
seeded Tennessee Lady Volunteers in the first round of the tournament, it was the Demons'
first post season appearance in the prestigious NCAA tournament in ten seasons.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend its tribute to the coaches, players, and staff of the Northwestern State
University women's basketball team for their phenomenal season that culminated in the Lady
Demons' title win in the Southland Conference Tournament and appearance in the NCAA
Women's Basketball Tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Athletic Director and Co-Head Coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr of Northwestern State
University.
