SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8
BY SENATOR PEACOCK
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Caroline Boley on her numerous accomplishments, her
exemplary academic achievements, and on being honored as a recipient of the LSU
University Medal.
WHEREAS, the University Medal is LSU's highest academic achievement and was
bestowed on only 11 of the 1,582 graduates in the fall commencement on December 20,
2013; and
WHEREAS, Caroline Boley, 2010 valedictorian at Captain Shreve High School in
Shreveport, was one of the medal recipients, made straight As, maintained a 4.0 grade point
average, and graduated summa cum laude at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, while at LSU, Caroline Boley majored in history and did her student
teaching at Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, she was a student worker in the LSU History Department from August
2011 to May 2013; and
WHEREAS, she became founder and president of the LSU Chapter of the National
Council for the Social Studies, an organization that strives to create a community among
future secondary teachers of social studies, while offering important tools, skills, and
connections needed for success; and
WHEREAS, Caroline was an intern in the office of Governor Bobby Jindal from
January to May 2011, working sixteen hours a week in the Constituent Services Department,
responding to the governor's mail, email, and phone calls from the public, coordinating issue
responses, and processing requests; and
WHEREAS, she was a member of several honors organizations, including the
National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Eta Sigma, and Alpha Lambda Delta; and SR NO. 8	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, she held Kappa Delta leadership positions and enjoyed giving back to
the community and living by the sorority's motto, which is to "strive for that which is
honorable, beautiful, and highest"; and
WHEREAS, during the medal ceremony with Dr. F. King Alexander, president and
chancellor of LSU, it was announced that Caroline's favorite place on campus is the exact
spot her grandfather, Benjamin Van Osdell Jr., stood in a photograph as an LSU student in
1948 on the side of Himes Hall where the Memorial Tower and building arches can be seen
in the background; this location fills her with peace and joy, knowing that her grandfather
once walked the campus, and her mother, sister, aunt, and uncle before her have since stood
in the very same sentimental spot for a photograph as LSU students, and she hopes to pass
this tradition on to her children; and
WHEREAS, Caroline's achievements and service began at Captain Shreve, where
she was the Legislative Youth Advisory Council member for District 4, a Student Council
Senator, Girls' State delegate, president of the sophomore and junior class, Captain Shreve
Student of the Year finalist, NCA All-American Cheerleader and varsity captain, freshman
and senior maid on the Homecoming Court, junior maid on the Prom Court, Z Club member
for four years, Northwest Louisiana Literary Rally participant all four years, French Club
president, Artbreak Idol singing finalist, Northwest Louisiana Food Bank Youth Board
treasurer, YWCA youth board member, was named to Who's Who and National Honor
Society, and received the Chesapeake Energy Leadership Award and Tulane Award for
Academic Achievement/Service; and
WHEREAS, Caroline is an extraordinary role model for other students and is worthy
of emulation and public recognition and is a tremendous source of pride for her parents,
Carolyn and Fred Boley, and her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, she deserves to be recognized, honored, and respected for her vast
knowledge and superior academic distinction as well as her exemplary deeds to improve and
make a positive impact on her campus, and in her city and state; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
of extraordinary young women like Caroline Boley. SR NO. 8	ENROLLED
