SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93

CONDOLENCES. Extends condolences upon the death of Louisiana Army National Guard
Staff Sergeant John W. Winsper III.
A RESOLUTION1
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the2
family of Louisiana Army National Guard Staff Sergeant John W. Winsper III, upon3
his death in Alexandria, Louisiana.4
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper was a native of Alexandria, and attended5
Nachman Elementary School and Our Lady of Prompt Succor; in 1998, his family moved6
to Silverdale, Washington, and young John W. Winsper eventually got a chance to show his7
athletic talents at Central Kitsap High School playing football and wrestling, where he was8
a state wrestling qualifier; and9
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper would demonstrate his impressive leadership10
skills as a member of the Boy Scouts of America by earning the coveted rank of Eagle Scout11
and bringing great pride and confidence to his fellow scouts; and12
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper sought knowledge and in that quest, he attended13
Washington State University, Louisiana State University and Mississippi College; and14
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper felt a great love for his country and as a way for15
him to display that great affection, he enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard and16
soon stood out as a leader in the ranks of his unit; and17
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper would sharpen and exemplify his leadership18 SR NO. 93

abilities during two combat tours of duty, one in Iraq in 2010, and another in Afghanistan1
in 2011 and 2012; and2
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper would experience great joy and true love when3
he married Alaina Browning on Valentine's Day, 2011, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor4
Church, in Alexandria, where he planned to settle down, after his hectic and challenging life5
in the military; and6
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper was well known for his service and sacrifice for7
his country during two separate combat deployments, and his devoted wife Alaina supported8
him while knowing she was a soldier's wife and must stand by the man she loved; and9
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Winsper was twenty-seven years old when he passed on10
to a better place and he received his reward for a life well-lived, but he will be deeply missed11
by his family, friends and comrades in arms, and he will never be forgotten by those he12
loved and those who lives he touched.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana14
does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family of Louisiana15
Army National Guard Staff Sergeant John W. Winsper III for their loss, their loved one's16
service and the sacrifices he made in the service of his country.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the18
family of Louisiana Army National Guard Staff Sergeant John W. Winsper III.19
