A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the
family of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joseph E. Anderson upon his death while on
leave during the Christmas holidays to see his children.
WHEREAS, Joseph E. Anderson was a native of Marrero, Louisiana, and a 2000
graduate of John Ehret High School; and
WHEREAS, he decided that he would enter the Armed Forces when he was twenty,
enlisting in the U.S. Army and beginning his training at Fort Benning, Georgia, with the
hope that he might be better able to take care of his young family; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Anderson trained hard and was soon recognized by his
superiors as a real leader and a disciplined soldier who could be counted on to complete his
mission and take good care of his troops, and was rewarded with promotions and increased
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Anderson was stationed at several posts during his
military career, including Fort Hood and Fort Sam Houston, both in Texas, and later on to
Fort Bragg in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, one of Staff Sergeant Anderson's proudest moments during his
dedicated service was the award of his U.S. Army Airborne Wings in 2005 after successful
completion of the Jump School at Fort Benning, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Anderson would be sent on three overseas deployments
during his brave service for his country; to Kuwait in 2003 and Iraq in 2004 and 2006,
proudly following in the tradition-filled footsteps of his grandfathers who both served in the
U.S. Army during World War II; and SR NO. 94	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Anderson knew the rigors and dangers of life for a
soldier in a combat theater and was always vigilant and prepared as he performed his duties
and tended to the needs of his soldiers; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Anderson felt great emotion and joy at seeing his three
children during the 2013 Christmas holidays in Marrero, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the light of his life was always his children, Joseph Jr., Jamal, and
Morgan who last December were ages 12, 11, and 7 respectively; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Anderson was only thirty-one, feeling safe and secure
visiting his old home town and bringing his children to their grandparents house when he
encountered an armed man who shot him and car jacked his vehicle, leaving him mortally
wounded.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend its deepest condolences to the family of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joseph
E. Anderson for their immeasurable loss and for his service and sacrifice for his country. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
parents of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joseph E. Anderson.
