EDUCATION:  Provides relative to surveys administered to public school students
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 17:355(B)(2), relative to parental access to school materials; to
3 provide with respect to the rights of parents relative to surveys administered or
4 distributed by schools and school boards to students; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 17:355(B)(2) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง355.  Parental access to instructional materials

10	B.  A parent is entitled to:

12	(2)  Review any survey and approve surveys before the survey is that are to
13 be administered or distributed by a school to a student students.  No school or school
14 board shall administer or distribute a survey to a student unless his parent has
15 approved his participation in the survey.

Abstract:  Requires parental approval of surveys administered or distributed by schools to
students.
Present law provides that a parent of a child attending a public elementary or secondary
school is entitled to review any survey before it is administered or distributed by a school
to a student.
Proposed law provides that parents are also entitled to approve such surveys.  Prohibits any
school or school board from administering or distributing a survey to a student unless his
parent has approved his participation in the survey.
