ASSESSORS:  Authorizes an automobile expense allowance for assessors
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 47:1908(F) and 1925.11 and to repeal R.S. 47:1925.9 and
3 1925.10, relative to expenses of assessors; to authorize an automobile expense
4 allowance for assessors; to provide for certain limitations and requirements; and to
5 provide for related matters.
6	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
7	as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
8	Louisiana.
9Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
10 Section 1.  R.S. 47:1908(F) and 1925.11 are hereby amended and reenacted to read
11as follows: 
12 §1908.  Expenses

14	F.  In Washington Parish, the assessor All parish assessors may receive an
15 automobile expense allowance equal to fifteen percent of his annual salary provided
16 the assessor maintains three hundred thousand dollars of automobile insurance per
17 accident for bodily injury and one hundred thousand dollars of automobile insurance
18 per accident for property damage.  The expense allowance shall come from surplus

1 existing funds in the assessor's office and at no additional expense to the state or
2 local governing authority.

4 §1925.11.  Webster Parish Assessment District Districts; automobile expense
5	allowance
6	In the Webster Parish any Assessment District, the assessor may receive an
7 automobile expense allowance equal to fifteen percent of his annual salary provided
8 the assessor maintains three hundred thousand dollars of automobile insurance per
9 accident for bodily injury and one hundred thousand dollars of automobile insurance
10 per accident for property damage.  The expense allowance shall come from existing
11 funds in the assessor's office and at no additional expense to the state or local
12 governing authority.
13 Section 2.  R.S. 47:1925.9 and 1925.10 are hereby repealed in their entirety.

Abstract:  Authorizes an automobile expense allowance for all parish assessors equal to
15% of the assessor's salary to be paid from existing funds of the assessor's office.
Present law authorizes an automobile expense allowance for the assessor in Washington
Parish, as well as the assessors in the Iberia Parish Assessment District and Webster Parish
Assessment District. The allowance is equal to 15% of the assessor's annual salary and
payable out of existing or surplus funds of the assessor's office, provided the assessor
maintains $300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and $100,000 of
automobile insurance per accident for property damage. 
Present law authorizes an automobile expense allowance for the assessor in the Evangeline
Assessment District.  The allowance is equal to 12% of the assessor's annual salary and
payable out of surplus funds of the assessor's office, provided the assessor maintains
$300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and $100,000 of automobile
insurance per accident for property damage. 
Proposed law repeals present law as it relates to the assessor in Washington, Evangeline, and
Iberia Parishes in favor of authorizing an automobile expense allowance for all parish
assessors and assessors in assessment districts.  The allowance is equal to 15% of the
assessor's annual salary, payable out of existing funds of the assessor's office, provided the
assessor maintains $300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and
$100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for property damage.  The expense allowance

shall be funded by the assessor and at no additional expense to the state or local governing
authority.
Proposed law increases the amount of the authorization of the automobile expense allowance
in Evangeline Parish from 12% of the assessor's annual salary to 15% of the assessor's
annual salary.
