HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 111
BY REPRESENTATIVES NANCY LANDRY, BARRAS, STUART BISHOP, GISCLAIR,
HENSGENS, TERRY LANDRY, MIGUEZ, MONTOUCET, ORTEGO, PIERRE,
ROBIDEAUX, THIBAUT, AND THIERRY AND SENATORS ALLAIN,
CORTEZ, GUILLORY, MILLS, PERRY, GARY SMITH, AND WARD
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Special Olympics Louisiana athletes from the Acadiana area who
participated in the 2014 USA Games.
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana is a statewide organization that promotes
understanding, acceptance, and inclusion between people with and without intellectual
disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana offers year-round programs for 14,200
children and adults with intellectual disabilities in all sixty-four parishes throughout the state
with the help of 15,000 volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana selected a delegation of sixteen athletes,
ten unified partners, and eight coaches from the Acadiana area to attend the third Special
Olympics USA Games held June 4 through June 21, 2014, in New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, the Special Olympics Louisiana athletes, unified partners, and coaches
from the Acadiana area represented Louisiana with great honor and pride; these
extraordinary individuals won forty-eight awards, including twenty gold medals, five silver
medals, nine bronze medals, nine fourth place ribbons, two fifth place ribbons, one seventh
place ribbon, one eighth place ribbon, and one participation ribbon; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the Special Olympics Louisiana athletes
from the Acadiana area for the outstanding sportsmanship, talent, and respect they exhibited
in the 2014 USA Games.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the Special Olympics Louisiana athletes from the Acadiana area for their
extraordinary performance in the 2014 USA Games and does hereby recognize the pride and
honor these individuals bring to their families, friends, and communities and to the state of
Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Acadiana Area team leader, Special Olympics Louisiana.
