HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 145
BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON,
NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY,
WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON,
DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Kirstyn Marie Torres upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High
School Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative
Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
WHEREAS, Kirstyn Marie Torres is a senior at Assumption High School in
Napoleonville where she has maintained a 4.38 GPA and has earned dual enrollment credit
with River Parishes Community College for multiple classes; and
WHEREAS, in honor of her academic achievement, Kirstyn has been the recipient
of the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation Academic Achievement Scholarship, the National
Scholar Athlete Award, the Class Rank - Top 10 Award, and the Superior Scholastic
Excellence Award; and
WHEREAS, she is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, and she has
received her specialist certification in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and a
certificate for Internet & Computing Core IC3 Certification; in addition to these
achievements, she has received top scores on multiple end of course tests in core subjects;
and
WHEREAS, while excelling in academics, Kirstyn has also excelled in sports; she
was a member of the Assumption High School volleyball squad for two years, capturing
district titles and playoff wins in both years; she was also a four-year member of the
Assumption High School softball team, she served as captain for two years and received the
softball letterman award for three years, the softball All-District award, the softball All-

Region award, and for two years, the softball All-State award; she has been recognized by
United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) as one of the "Best Players in USSSA
Softball" for two years and is also the recipient of a softball athletic scholarship from the
University of Mobile; and
WHEREAS, Kirstyn has been actively involved in leadership and in her community;
she was a freshman class committee member, sophomore class committee member, junior
class committee treasurer, and senior class committee member; she was also a Student
Council class representative, a Louisiana Student Council State Convention attendee, the
Science Club reporter, a member of Health Occupations for Students of America (HOSA),
and a Louisiana State HOSA Fall Forum attendee; and
WHEREAS, she has been a youth leader for three years for her church's Vacation
Bible School, has participated in the Youth Bible Study Program, the volunteer Church
Clean-Up Group, the Religious Education CCD Program, and has attended various religious
education retreats; she was an active participant in the Relay for Life fundraising efforts for
the American Cancer Society and a nursing home volunteer throughout her years in high
school; and
WHEREAS, during her senior year, Kirstyn was chosen to be on the 2014
homecoming court and was nominated for the Chamber of Commerce Student of the Year
award and the Knights of Columbus, Louisiana State Council, chose her as the recipient of
the 2015 Female Catholic Youth Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards:
Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of
Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and

WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being
recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Kirstyn Marie Torres has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women of
Excellence Award in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and also is a
recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her
accomplishments and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics,
leadership, and community service; and
WHEREAS, Kirstyn Marie Torres merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of
commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and
it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Kirstyn Marie Torres upon her
receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's
Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Kirstyn Marie Torres upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School
Woman of Excellence and upon her receipt of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus
Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular
contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for
the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Kirstyn Marie Torres.
