HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 150
BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON,
NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY,
WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON,
DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Madeline Joan Janney upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category
of College Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana
Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
WHEREAS, Madeline Joan Janney is the daughter of Brett and Erin Wright and is
a junior at Loyola University New Orleans, where she is majoring in Psychological Sciences
with a minor in New Orleans studies; and
WHEREAS, for the past two years, Madeline has served as a mentor in the First in
the Pack program, a mentoring program for first-generation college students at Loyola
University; she is active in the Psychology Department and serves as the departmental
student representative and the student representative to the College Assembly of the College
of Humanities and Natural Sciences; and
WHEREAS, Madeline is an Ignatian Scholar and a member of the University Honors
Program; she has been on the Dean's List each semester and is a member of Phi Eta Sigma
National Honor Society, Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology, and Alpha Sigma
Nu Jesuit Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Madeline's involvement in the community includes serving as a
volunteer for PRIME TIME Family Reading Time, a humanities-focused family literacy
program for underserved children and families; she has also volunteered as a tutor for the
Start the Adventure in Reading program for second grade students and was named the
assistant site coordinator; and

WHEREAS, she has also volunteered as a tutor for the Catholic Charities English as
a Second Language program and was named a project coordinator for the citywide Martin
Luther King, Jr., Day of Service; each year, she volunteers for Loyola's National Day of
Community Service, Wolves on the Prowl; and
WHEREAS, among her other accomplishments, Madeline has been a member of the
Ignacio Volunteers program; during the summer of 2014, she traveled to Belize, Central
America, for a three-week immersion service trip and served as a teacher at the Umadagu
Lescuela summer camp in the coastal town of Dangriga; and
WHEREAS, this summer, Madeline will begin to work on her honors senior thesis
in New Orleans studies and will return to Dangriga as a teacher and team leader; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards:
Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of
Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Non-profit of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being
recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Madeline Joan Janney has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women
of Excellence Award in the category of College Woman of Excellence and is also a recipient
of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her
accomplishments which demonstrate she has truly personified excellence in integrity,
character, academics, leadership, and community service; and
WHEREAS, Madeline Joan Janney merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of
commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and
it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Madeline Joan Janney upon
her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's

Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship
which recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Madeline Joan Janney upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of College
Woman of Excellence and upon her receipt of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus
Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular
contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for
the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Madeline Joan Janney.
