HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 35
BY REPRESENTATIVE HUNTER
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To urge and request the United States Postal Service to consider assigning a new zip code
to the town of Richwood in Ouachita Parish.
WHEREAS, the town of Richwood in Ouachita Parish shares a zip code with one
used throughout the metropolitan Monroe area; and
WHEREAS, when zip code boundaries are not aligned with municipal boundaries,
there is potential for citizens to face higher home and automobile insurance rates, for
confusion with respect to voter registration, and for misdirected property and sales tax
revenues, among other problems; and
WHEREAS, the assignment of a new zip code for use in the town of Richwood
might reduce the potential for such problems; and
WHEREAS, additionally, having a unique zip code might grant the citizens of the
town of Richwood a stronger sense of independence and identity.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the United States Postal Service to consider assigning a new zip code to the
town of Richwood in Ouachita Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
United States Postmaster General and to the mayor of Richwood.
