ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 41 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize Wednesday, April 22, 2015, as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Louisiana State Action Day at the state capitol and to encourage efforts to inform the citizens of Louisiana about multiple sclerosis. WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system that affects 2.3 million people worldwide; and WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society reports that most people are diagnosed with the disease during the prime-of-life years, ages twenty through fifty; MS causes unpredictable effects in which the progression, severity, and specific symptoms cannot be foreseen, and the cause and cure for this often debilitating disease remains unknown; and WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is committed to a world free of MS by heightening public knowledge and insight into the disease; and WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a driving force of MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatment, and a cure; over 868 million dollars has been invested in groundbreaking research; and WHEREAS, funds raised through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society fuel the efforts of nearly 380 research projects, globally totaling 50.2 million dollars annually, at the best medical centers, universities, and other institutions throughout the United States and abroad; and WHEREAS, discovering the cause, finding a cure, and preventing future generations from being diagnosed with MS is an important task that all Americans and Louisianans should support; and Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 41 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana recognizes the importance of finding the cause and cure of MS and expresses its appreciation and admiration for the dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has shown towards a future free of multiple sclerosis. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, April 22, 2015, as National Multiple Sclerosis Society Louisiana State Action Day at the state capitol and does hereby encourage all Louisianans to learn more about multiple sclerosis and what can be done to support individuals with multiple sclerosis and their families. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
