HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 137

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Louisiana Psychological Association for its achievements and to designate
June 2, 2015, as Louisiana Psychological Association Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, and with
boundless applications in everyday life; and
WHEREAS, psychologists advance the creation, communication, evaluation, and
application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives
through the study of normal and abnormal behavior and the treatment of individuals with
mental and emotional problems; and
WHEREAS, psychologists study and encourage behaviors that build wellness and
emotional resilience; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of psychology to health, well-being, productivity, and
quality of life are widely noted, understood, valued, and utilized by society; and
WHEREAS, currently, there are more than seven hundred fifty licensed
psychologists located throughout the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Psychological Association, as the state professional
association representing psychologists in all practice, research, and academic settings, works
to further the development of psychology as a science, as an applied practice, and as a means
of promoting human welfare; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Psychological Association advances the quality,
availability, use, and support of psychology through standard-setting, advocacy, education,
and research to better serve the public; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Louisiana Psychological Association is to advance
the field of psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting health,
education, and human welfare; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of the Louisiana Psychological Association have
made a difference in the communities throughout this state; and
WHEREAS, on June 12 through 13, 2015, the Louisiana Psychological Association
will host its annual convention, with "Psychology Across the Life Span" as its theme.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Psychological Association
and its members for furthering the scientific understanding of the behavioral and cognitive
process and for dedicated service to the people of Louisiana and recognizes Tuesday, June
2, 2015, as Louisiana Psychological Association Day at the state capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the president of the Louisiana Psychological Association.
