BY REPRESENTATIVE THIERRY
COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Lady Canes girls' basketball team of North Central
High School in Lake Charles upon winning its first state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the North Central High School girls' basketball team for winning the Class 1A
3 state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the North Central High School girls' basketball team completed a
5sensational 2014-2015 season when they earned the title of Class 1A state champions after
6defeating Vermilion Catholic with a final score of 54-50 at Burton Coliseum in Lake
7Charles; and
8 WHEREAS, the win against Vermilion Catholic marks the first state championship
9title in any sport for North Central High School; and
10 WHEREAS, the Lady Canes were lead by Jazlyn Roberston, who finished the game
11with fourteen points and twelve rebounds which earned her the title of most outstanding
12player; Sydney Martin and Quaniqua Joseph also scored and rebounded well to help capture
13the state title; and
14 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of excellence
15throughout the season, and each of the Lady Canes deserves recognition for her vital
16contributions to the winning effort; and
17 WHEREAS, head coach Vanessa Taylor has instilled an ethic of winning and
18demonstrated the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both
19on and off the court; and
20 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title which the Lady
21Canes have earned, to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at
22the most difficult level of competition, and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations
23to the team members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship
24shown while achieving such a high honor for North Central High School.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members of the North
3Central High School girls' basketball team and head coach Vanessa Taylor for winning the
4Class 1A state basketball championship, capping off a truly spectacular season and does
5hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the honor and pride that they have
6brought to their school and community.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
8to head coach Vanessa Taylor.
