HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 17
BY REPRESENTATIVE THIERRY
A RESOLUTION
To commend the North Central High School girls' basketball team for winning the Class 1A
state championship.
WHEREAS, the North Central High School girls' basketball team completed a
sensational 2014-2015 season when they earned the title of Class 1A state champions after
defeating Vermilion Catholic with a final score of 54-50 at Burton Coliseum in Lake
Charles; and
WHEREAS, the win against Vermilion Catholic marks the first state championship
title in any sport for North Central High School; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Canes were lead by Jazlyn Roberston, who finished the game
with fourteen points and twelve rebounds which earned her the title of most outstanding
player; Sydney Martin and Quaniqua Joseph also scored and rebounded well to help capture
the state title; and
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of excellence
throughout the season, and each of the Lady Canes deserves recognition for her vital
contributions to the winning effort; and
WHEREAS, head coach Vanessa Taylor has instilled an ethic of winning and
demonstrated the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both
on and off the court; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title which the Lady
Canes have earned, to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at
the most difficult level of competition, and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations
to the team members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship
shown while achieving such a high honor for North Central High School.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members of the North
Central High School girls' basketball team and head coach Vanessa Taylor for winning the
Class 1A state basketball championship, capping off a truly spectacular season and does
hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the honor and pride that they have
brought to their school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to head coach Vanessa Taylor.
