HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 224

COMMENDATIONS:  Congratulates the 1965 graduating class of McKinley Senior High
School upon its fiftieth anniversary
1	A RESOLUTION
2To congratulate the 1965 McKinley Senior High School graduating class upon its fiftieth
3 anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, McKinley Senior High School is the oldest high school established for
5African Americans in the state of Louisiana, with rich traditions and a legacy of excellence
6in the community; and
7 WHEREAS, in September 1961, the "Golden Class" of McKinley Senior High
8School began its four-year journey into history, becoming the first freshman class to occupy
9the newly-constructed building at 800 East McKinley Street in Baton Rouge; and
10 WHEREAS, the Golden Class was the first to complete the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and
11twelfth grades, a unique claim no other McKinley Senior High School graduating class can
12match; and
13 WHEREAS, the 1965 graduating class featured students who excelled in academics,
14sports, and music; numerous awards were won by these students under the nurturing
15guidance of teachers who maintained high expectations of their charges; and
16 WHEREAS, the members of the 1965 graduating class of McKinley Senior High
17School believe their steps were ordered by God and are grateful that He has allowed them
18to observe their fiftieth year class reunion on June 13, 2015.
19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby congratulate the members of the 1965 graduating class

1of McKinley Senior High School upon the celebration of their fiftieth year class reunion and
2does hereby extend best hopes and wishes for many more years of celebrations.
