CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of LeRoy "Roy" William Stern,
Ascension Parish School System retired administrator and teacher
1 A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of LeRoy "Roy"
3 William Stern, of Gonzales.
4 WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives were grieved to learn of
5the passing on June 9, 2015, of LeRoy "Roy" William Stern, at the age of eighty-four; and
6 WHEREAS, a native of Hastings, Minnesota, Roy Stern received a bachelor's degree
7from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree from Louisiana State University; he
8was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Stern served his country; he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Stern taught English and journalism at East Ascension High School;
11he was named the first principal of the new St. Amant High School and was appointed
12director of secondary education, a position he held until his retirement; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Stern was a member of the City of Gonzales Marketing Team, a
14past member of the Gonzales Rotary Club, and an honorary Knights of Columbus member;
15and
16 WHEREAS, fond recollections of good times will forever remain in the hearts and
17minds of his wife of sixty-one years, Betty Petrolia Stern; daughter Kerry Stern Songy and
18husband Donald; son Mark and wife Julia McGee Stern; granddaughters Meg Songy
19LeBlanc and husband Adam, and Elise and Rose LeBlanc; grandsons Bryan Songy, Joseph
20Stern and wife Eliza Eaton-Stern, and Matthew Stern; and brothers Jerry and Jack Stern; and

1it is with great sadness that the members of the House of Representatives bid eternal farewell
2to LeRoy "Roy" William Stern.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express most heartfelt condolences upon the passing
5of LeRoy "Roy" William Stern and does hereby express best hopes and prayers for comfort.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
7to the family of LeRoy Stern.
