HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 25
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARMODY
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Youth Legislature of the Boys and Girls Club of
Greater Baton Rouge
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Youth Legislature of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge for
3 promoting and encouraging teamwork and leadership in students.
4 WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature has been in existence for more than thirty-five
5years; the mission of the Youth Legislature is to promote and encourage youth leadership,
6participation, cooperation, and teamwork among peers; and
7 WHEREAS, this extraordinary event gives students the confidence to participate in
8leadership roles in high school and in their respective communities; and
9 WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature is a middle school program that introduces
10students to the legislative process; students receive classroom instruction and have the
11opportunity to participate in a two-day mock legislative session at the Old State Capitol; and
12 WHEREAS, the students of the Youth Legislature elect a Governor and House and
13Senate officers and sponsor, debate, pass, and veto bills that they have drafted; and
14 WHEREAS, currently, more than forty schools from ten parishes in the state of
15Louisiana participate in the Youth Legislature, and more than one thousand eight hundred
16students participate in the mock legislative process that takes place over eight weeks; and
17 WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature program merits a special measure of
18commendation for its commitment to promoting and encouraging youth leadership,
19participation, cooperation, and teamwork among students in Louisiana.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Youth Legislature of the Boys and Girls

1Club of Greater Baton Rouge for promoting and encouraging teamwork and leadership in
2students.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
4to Paula Braud of the Youth Legislature.
