ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 25 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARMODY A RESOLUTION To commend the Youth Legislature of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge for promoting and encouraging teamwork and leadership in students. WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature has been in existence for more than thirty-five years; the mission of the Youth Legislature is to promote and encourage youth leadership, participation, cooperation, and teamwork among peers; and WHEREAS, this extraordinary event gives students the confidence to participate in leadership roles in high school and in their respective communities; and WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature is a middle school program that introduces students to the legislative process; students receive classroom instruction and have the opportunity to participate in a two-day mock legislative session at the Old State Capitol; and WHEREAS, the students of the Youth Legislature elect a Governor and House and Senate officers and sponsor, debate, pass, and veto bills that they have drafted; and WHEREAS, currently, more than forty schools from ten parishes in the state of Louisiana participate in the Youth Legislature, and more than one thousand eight hundred students participate in the mock legislative process that takes place over eight weeks; and WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature program merits a special measure of commendation for its commitment to promoting and encouraging youth leadership, participation, cooperation, and teamwork among students in Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Youth Legislature of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge for promoting and encouraging teamwork and leadership in students.
