ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 44 BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE A RESOLUTION To commend Patricia Colbert-Cormier upon her receipt of the Louisiana Association of Educators' 2015 Human and Civil Rights Award. WHEREAS, Patricia Colbert-Cormier is a powerful advocate for minorities and displays creativity, perseverance, and extraordinary courage in her efforts to spread awareness about the rights of minorities; and WHEREAS, Ms. Colbert-Cormier also has served in several different capacities within local and state chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and for twenty-seven years, she has been leading the Black History Month program at her high school; she founded her own nonprofit education group to reach out to high school dropouts; and WHEREAS, she has been a teacher and an inspiration to students for nearly fifty years; currently, she teaches biology at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy; and WHEREAS, Ms. Colbert-Cormier has a passion to engage the youth of Lafayette in innovative lessons about human and civil rights, and she merits a special measure of commendation for the tremendous pride she brings to the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Patricia Colbert-Cormier upon receiving the Louisiana Association of Educators' 2015 Human and Civil Rights Award; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding commitment and contributions in bringing awareness about the rights of minorities and women; and does hereby wish Ms. Colbert- Cormier full measures of success and happiness in her future endeavors.
