HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 90
BY REPRESENTATIVES LORUSSO, HENRY, AND LEGER
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Jesuit High School football team upon winning the Division I state football
championship on December 5, 2014.
WHEREAS, Jesuit High School won its eighth state championship with a 17-14 win
over John Curtis Christian High School in the title game of the 2014 Division I state football
championship and it is appropriate to commend the players and coaches on this outstanding
achievement; and
WHEREAS, 2014 marks the first time the Blue Jays made an appearance in the
Louisiana High School Athletic Association's Prep Classic since 1978, and also marked their
first advance to the state finals since 1978; and
WHEREAS, the Jesuit Blue Jays captured their first state championship in football
in 1933 and had not won a state championship title since 1960; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Jays finished the 2014 season with a 12-2 record; the amazing
accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills
of head coach Mark Songy, as well as the assistant coaches and other individuals who have
contributed to the success of the school's football program; and
WHEREAS, the Blue Jays ended the 2014 season with a six game winning streak,
including defeating St. Augustine High School in two consecutive games; and
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of
excellence, and each intrepid Blue Jay deserves recognition for his vital contribution to the
winning effort; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana House of Representatives wishes to recognize the well-
deserved title the Jesuit Blue Jays have earned and to express its sincere and heartfelt

congratulations to the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the
sportsmanship shown while achieving such a high honor for Jesuit High School.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Jesuit High School football team for
winning the 2014 Division I state football championship and for a truly spectacular season;
does hereby recognize the Blue Jays' outstanding performance and the honor and pride that
the team has brought to its school and community; and does hereby extend best wishes to
the Jesuit High School Blue Jays for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Mark Songy, head coach of the Jesuit High School Blue Jays.
