2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 103 BY SENATORS ALARIO, ADLEY, ALLAIN, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, BROWN, BUFFINGTON, CHABERT, CLAITOR, CORTEZ, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY-COLOMB, ERDEY, GALLOT, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JOHNS, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARTINY, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MURRAY, NEVERS, PEACOCK, PERRY, PETERSON, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE AND REPRESENTATIVE CARTER A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of former Senate comptroller and dedicated public servant, Edwin William "Bill" Curry, and to commemorate a life well spent in service to his country and his state. WHEREAS, it is with deep sadness and profound sorrow that the members of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Edwin William "Bill" Curry on May 11, 2015, at age seventy-one; and WHEREAS, Edwin William Curry was born on August 1, 1943, in Franklin, Louisiana, and was reared in the community of Centerville in St. Mary Parish; and WHEREAS, he was an excellent student and upon graduation from Centerville High School in 1961, attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree; and WHEREAS, Bill began graduate school at the University of Virginia and later transferred to Louisiana State University; and WHEREAS, within a semester of obtaining his master's degree, he was called to serve his country with induction into the United States Army; and WHEREAS, soon after his call to duty, he married his sweetheart, Nancy LeJeune, on the fourth of July and their first two years of married life was spent at his duty station in West Germany; and WHEREAS, upon honorable discharge from military service, Bill returned to graduate school at LSU in 1971 and, after having served as a student clerk employed by the Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 103 ENROLLED office of secretary of state, he renewed his career in public service as a division of administration accountant responsible for the office of lieutenant governor and the House of Representatives and, in September 1972, began employment with the Louisiana Senate; and WHEREAS, Bill Curry's attention to detail and superior skill set advanced him to positions as legislative fiscal officer, legislative controller, and from 1982 to 2013, Senate comptroller; and WHEREAS, he developed and maintained positive working relationships with Senate Presidents and the chief of staff on all financial matters affecting the legislative branch; and WHEREAS, Bill Curry continually maintained the trust and support of legislators and legislative staff and he was known affectionately as "Mr. Bill"; and WHEREAS, with his years of public service experience, Bill Curry exemplified all of the finest qualities of a proficient, legislative comptroller and steward of public funds who was highly respected among his peers and admired for his professionalism, and he steadfastly adhered to the most stringent standards of honesty and integrity; and WHEREAS, Bill Curry humbly served his God as a head elder at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Evans "Prof" Curry and Gertrude Stockstill Curry and brother, Evans Curry; and WHEREAS, Bill Curry is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Edwin William "Bill" Curry III and his wife, Lauren; daughter, Christina "Christy" Dorsa and her husband, Tony; and grandchildren William, Elizabeth, and Camille Curry, and Abigail and Savannah Dorsa; and WHEREAS, Bill Curry was an extraordinary man and a caring individual who left an indelible mark on the legislators and legislative officers and employees whom he served so well. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Edwin William "Bill" Curry, former Senate comptroller and does hereby commend his significant contributions to the Senate, the Louisiana Legislature, and state government, and his commitment to budgetary Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 103 ENROLLED excellence, his friendship, his leadership, and the able assistance he so generously imparted to all who worked with him.
