2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 133 BY SENATOR DORSEY-COLOMB A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend David Holmes on his academic achievements and impeccable leadership. WHEREAS, David Holmes is an outstanding young leader and student from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who graduated from Vanderbilt University on May 8, 2015; and WHEREAS, Vanderbilt University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, is considered one of the top sixteen universities in the United States, and admits only thirteen percent of its applicants; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes graduated high school with a 4.01 grade point average and a score of thirty-four on the American College Testing (ACT) assessment; and WHEREAS, he chose to attend Vanderbilt University because it beckoned as an institution that encouraged excellence and he wished to continue to excel in every aspect of his life; and WHEREAS, during his career at Vanderbilt University, Mr. Holmes utilized his knowledge, expertise, and abilities to serve as a student leader; and WHEREAS, for three years, he was a VUceptor, which is a peer mentor who works with a faculty partner to assist first-year students to adjust to campus life and find their place in the campus community; and WHEREAS, in his senior year Mr. Holmes was awarded the Walther Award for VUcept Excellence in recognition of the hard work, dedication, and influence he exhibited as an undergraduate peer mentor; and WHEREAS, he served in the Student Government Association, first as a freshman floor representative to the House Council and then as an inaugural member of the Traditions Task Force, a group dedicated to rediscovering and revitalizing the student-led traditions of the university; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes went through a three round selection process to become a Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 133 ENROLLED tour guide and also worked within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions helping to secure the best applicants for incoming classes; and WHEREAS, he also became involved in Alternative Spring Break, an organization that sends students to sites around the country during spring break to perform acts of service for local parties in need, and as a senior he became a site leader and led a group of students in working on an animal rescue farm; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes worked as a resident adviser helping to create a healthy and safe living environment for students and was a research assistant in the Political Science department assisting on a project examining the impact of formal diplomatic relations in international conduct; and WHEREAS, he excelled in academics and graduated on the Dean's List with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes achieved a Law School Admissions Test score of one hundred sixty-six, placing him in the ninety-third percentile, and has been admitted to the University of Texas at Austin School of Law; and WHEREAS, he was awarded a Chancellor's Scholarship to cover tuition and fees and upon graduation from law school, his goal is to work in international law working to bridge the gap between different cultures and legal systems in an increasingly global world; and WHEREAS, David Holmes is a talented young man who demonstrates impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable; and WHEREAS, he merits the highest commendation and most sincere congratulations upon his graduation from Vanderbilt University and his acceptance to the University of Texas at Austin School of Law; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald the achievements of Louisiana's accomplished youth like David Holmes, a model student and citizen who represents the best and brightest of the state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate David Holmes on his academic achievements and impeccable leadership, and does hereby record for posterity the pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.
