SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 27
BY SENATOR ERDEY AND REPRESENTATI VE POPE 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend and congratulate Dr. Milton Hughes on his retirement from the Livingston
Parish School Board representing District 3.
WHEREAS, Milton Hughes graduated from Doyle High School in 1953, attended
Southeastern Louisiana University, and graduated from Loyola University in 1959 with a
doctoral degree in dental surgery; and
WHEREAS, from 1959 to 1961, he served in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hughes practiced dentistry in Denham Springs until he retired from
that profession in 2007; and
WHEREAS, he was first elected to the Livingston Parish School Board in 1970 and
retired in 2014 after forty-four consecutive years of public service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hughes is a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Denham
Springs and was elected to the Denham Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014
as a supporter; and
WHEREAS, he was married to Gloria Grantham Hughes of Livingston for fifty years
and has three children and six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend upon people like Dr. Milton Hughes, an
extraordinary gentleman and public servant, and a true inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Milton Hughes merits a special measure of commendation for the
tremendous pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends, community, the parish of
Livingston, and the state of Louisiana.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Dr. Milton Hughes, Livingston Parish School Board member
representing District 3, for his dedicated public service upon his retirement, does hereby
recognize and record for posterity his accomplishments and contributions to his community,
and does hereby extend best wishes for his continued success and happiness in the years to
come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Dr. Milton Hughes.
