2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 49 BY SENATORS THOMPSON, ADLEY, ALARIO, BROOME, BROWN, BUFFINGTON, CLAITOR, ERDEY, GALLOT, GUILLORY, KOSTELKA, PEACOCK, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, WALSWORTH AND WARD AND REPRESENTATIVES ANDERS, CHANEY, FANNIN, HOFFMANN, HUNTER, JACKSON, JEFFERSON, JAY MORRIS, PYLANT AND SHADOIN A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Pilots for Patients for its invaluable philanthropic service of providing free air transportation for Louisiana patients to medical treatment facilities throughout the United States of America. WHEREAS, based in Monroe, Louisiana, Pilots for Patients offers free air transportation for Louisiana patients needing diagnosis and treatment at medical facilities, such as the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and WHEREAS, the primary goal of this nonprofit organization is to eliminate travel burdens, allowing patients to concentrate on getting well; and WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients organizes certified pilots, who volunteer their time, fuel, and airplanes, to fly patients needing assistance on their medical journey to wherever treatment awaits; and WHEREAS, at its inception in 2007, Pilots for Patients began with five volunteer pilots and has since grown to a listing of one hundred five volunteer pilots; and WHEREAS, pilots with this organization have flown more than two thousand two hundred flights; and WHEREAS, upon arrival at a medical treatment facility, Pilots for Patients are greeted by Ground Angels, who meet and move patients, also free of charge, from the aircraft to their treatment facility or lodging location; and WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients also partners with other humanitarian groups to fly relay missions over greater distances, along with providing key support during state and national disasters when patients require quick evacuation from areas facing imminent danger; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 49 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients routinely provides stuffed animals to sick children, providing them comfort during flight and regularly allows the children to sit in the airplane cockpit, where pilots explain the mysteries of flight; and WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients continue to make an extraordinarily powerful and real difference in the lives of needy Louisianians who may never have received medical treatment were it not for the brave and selfless efforts of these volunteer pilots who truly care and are willing to give of their time and resources to others. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Pilots for Patients for its invaluable philanthropic service of providing free air transportation for Louisiana patients to medical treatment facilities throughout the United States of America.
