2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 65 BY SENATORS LONG AND WALSWORTH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Pat Collins on being named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and state of Louisiana have learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon Pat Collins on his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and WHEREAS, Pat Collins was born August 20, 1941, and he became one of the most respected and admired football coaches in Louisiana college football history; and WHEREAS, he is remembered for his award-winning career at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, which was then called Northeast Louisiana University, where he headed the football team from 1981 until 1988; and WHEREAS, he maintains the school's record as the all-time leader in wins with a 57- 35 record for a winning percentage of .620; and in 1983, under his direction, the team won the Southland Conference crown; and WHEREAS, it was in 1987 that Coach Collins and his team scored their biggest victory by winning the NCAA Division I-AA National Championship, which is still the only title ever won by a Louisiana school even though most of the colleges in the state have been I-AA members at one time or another, and it remains the only time a Southland Conference team ever won the national title; and WHEREAS, the long and stellar career of Pat Collins has earned him a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 65 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Pat Collins on being named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
