SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 72
BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VE COX 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend and congratulate Yvette Girouard on being named to the 2015 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skills, and talents worthy of being named to the
hall of fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes famed
softball coach Yvette Girouard; and
WHEREAS, born on May 15, 1954, in Lafayette, Louisiana, she began her softball
coaching career in 1997, first at Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, and then in
1980 at her alma mater, Comeaux High School; and 
WHEREAS, in 1981, she was integral in starting the softball program at the
University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where
she was head coach from 1981-2000 and posted a stellar record of 759-250 winning record,
and under her leadership the team advanced to ten NCAA tournaments, and three Women's
College World Series; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, Ms. Girouard took over the coaching program at Louisiana
State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, where she achieved a 526-171-1
winning record, and she led the LSU Lady Tigers to two Women's College World Series,
three Southeastern Conference Championships, four Southeastern Conference tournament
championships, two Southeastern Conference tournament runner-up finishes, and seven
NCAA tournaments; and
WHEREAS, she is one of only three coaches to take two teams to the Women's
College World Series, and has won many honors, including the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association National Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1993; the Southland Conference Coach
of the Year in 1984, 1985, and 1986; the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2000;
and the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002, and 2006; and

WHEREAS, she has also been named Louisiana Coach of the Year thirteen times
during her stellar career; and
WHEREAS, Yvette Girouard possesses the character, skills, and leadership talents
worthy of being named to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Yvette Girouard for being named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame Induction Class.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Yvette Girouard.
