2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 84 BY SENATOR CORTEZ AND REPRESENTATIVE ROBIDEAUX A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the students and faculty of the Lafayette Parish School System for their first- overall placement in the Louisiana Governor's Games 23rd Annual Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Governor's Games (LGG) are the state's premier amateur sporting events for young enthusiasts from each parish to participate in annual competitive and fitness opportunities for all ages, skill levels, and economics demographics; and WHEREAS, the LGG has more than fifty sporting events that are held in municipalities across the state including basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, tennis, track and field, softball, youth baseball, and more; and WHEREAS, the statewide sporting events are performed over a six-month period, involving recreation departments where experienced sporting commissioners are chosen to professionally manage the games and ensure each game has an Olympic-style quality; and WHEREAS, since 1993, the elementary fitness meet has served as the Olympic Games for elementary school-aged children in thirty parishes, with more than two hundred thousand competing for the state fitness crown; and WHEREAS, the events of the competition for elementary fitness involve the fifty- yard dash, the shuttle run, pull-ups, the standing long-jump, curl-ups, sit-ups, six-hundred yard run, and the V-sit and reach; and WHEREAS, the Lafayette Parish School System finished with two thousand five hundred three points, compared to Rapides Parish in second place with two thousand four hundred eighty-six points, and East Baton Rouge Parish in third place with two thousand four hundred eighty-five points; and WHEREAS, named as top performer for Lafayette Parish was Karrington Eugene, who led with six hundred eighty-six individual points, accompanied by his teammates Conner Prejean, Jaylon John, and Mayah Richard; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 84 ENROLLED WHEREAS, this is the first time Lafayette Parish attained the first-overall spot after placing second, four times in the twenty-three year history of the state championship. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the students and faculty of the Lafayette Parish School System for their first- overall placement in the Louisiana Governor's Games 23rd Annual Elementary State Championship Fitness Meet.
