GARY SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND
WHITE 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend local school boards and superintendents throughout the state for their service
and dedication to the education of the children of Louisiana and for the pivotal role
they play in producing excellent public education.
WHEREAS, Louisiana school boards and their superintendents daily strive to fulfill
their mission of leadership, service, and support for local public schools; and
WHEREAS, school boards and local superintendents are assisted in their mission to
serve the citizens of Louisiana by the Louisiana School Boards Association which serves as
a source of information, support, and encouragement for school board members and local
superintendents alike; and
WHEREAS, it has been noted that efficient public schools are the foundation of
democracy, as they provide for a literate citizenry capable of understanding issues of
government and politics; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's local school boards help determine local community goals
for the education of nearly 700,000 children in prekindergarten classes through the twelfth
grade; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's school boards are dedicated to the premise that all citizens
must receive the finest education possible; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's more than six hundred school board members, sitting on
sixty-nine boards for local school systems, act as advocates for public school students as
they work with administrators, teachers, and parents for the betterment of public education;
and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's sixty-nine school superintendents work closely with school
boards and all educational stakeholders in each community for the overall improvement of
public education; and

WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents strive to provide the resources and
support necessary to meet the needs of all students, including those with special needs; and
WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents in Louisiana provide accountability
to the public, they communicate the needs of the school district, and they convey to school
administrators the public's expectations for school performance; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature of Louisiana appreciate the important
contributions of locally elected school board members and the leadership of school
superintendents.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend local school boards and superintendents throughout the state for their service and
dedication to the education of the children of Louisiana and for the pivotal role they play in
producing excellent public education.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Scott
Richard, executive director of the Louisiana School Boards Association.
