2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 121 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Ethan Laine Coker of Haynesville High School in Claiborne Parish for being named Louisiana's Middle/Junior High School Student of the Year. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the honor earned by Ethan Coker on being selected the Louisiana Middle/Junior High School Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, Ethan Coker, an eighth grade student at Haynesville High School, was named Louisiana Middle/Junior High School Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, eighteen students were selected as regional finalists in the state's annual Students of the Year competition, and the eighteen students selected include one fifth, eighth, and twelfth grader from each of the state's six regions to represent public and nonpublic elementary, middle, and high schools across Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the finalists all convened at the Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge on April 22, 2015, for an awards ceremony and the announcement of the State's Student of the Year winner; and WHEREAS, Ethan Coker was selected as the Louisiana Middle/Junior High School Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, Ethan Coker is the son of Keith and Lauribeth Padgett of Haynesville, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, his dedication to academic achievement and drive to do his best at all times are evident as he is a 4.0 student, a Duke TIP program medallion winner, and is currently enrolled in three high school courses; and WHEREAS, Ethan has scored advanced on all state tests he has taken; he made a perfect score on the ELA, math, and social studies portion of the iLEAP test, attained a score of twenty-four on the ACT as a seventh grader, and 25/25 on the ACT Explore test as an eighth grader; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 121 ENROLLED WHEREAS, in addition to academic success, Ethan is an active 4-H member and serves as his school's 4-H club president; in recognition of his outstanding participation in 4-H, he has received numerous parish, regional, and state awards, and has been an active participant of the Claiborne Parish 4-H outdoor skill club; and WHEREAS, he has also served as president of the Claiborne Parish Livestock Club for four years, and he is a member of the American Boer Goat Association, the American Dairy Goat Association, and the Louisiana Junior Show Circuit; and WHEREAS, he has won intermediate champion showman at the state fair of Louisiana, champion showman at the Northwest District show, first in class in showmanship at the LSU AgCenter Livestock show, and was top ten in the Louisiana Junior Show Circuit market and showmanship divisions; and WHEREAS, Ethan Coker is a compassionate young man and an exemplary citizen of Louisiana who volunteers his time to raise money for St. Jude, 4-H, and the Louisiana Junior Show Circuit; and WHEREAS, he has volunteered many hours of service to 4-H through livestock workshops, junior leader service hours, and the annual canned food drive; and WHEREAS, he enjoys spending Friday nights during football season as a videographer for the Haynesville High School football team; and WHEREAS, in his spare time, Ethan enjoys hunting, fishing, reading, and playing video games and the guitar; and WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Ethan Coker plans to attend college and major in biology or engineering; and WHEREAS, Ethan is a talented Louisiana student who demonstrates impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence that is truly commendable, and he is most deserving of being named the Louisiana Middle/Junior High School Student of the Year; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure on intelligent, dedicated, and strong young men like Ethan Coker. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize all of Ethan Coker's remarkable academic accomplishments, and Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 121 ENROLLED commends and congratulates him upon being named the Louisiana Middle/Junior High School Student of the Year, and wishes him much success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
