SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 149
BY SENATOR LONG 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Margaret Berry upon being named president of the Louisiana Philanthropic
Education Organization by Chapter AG in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, born and reared in Jonesville, Louisiana, Margaret Berry attended
Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Berry has lived and created an amazing home and family with her
husband Jimmy Berry, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, for the last forty-seven years; and
WHEREAS, she and her husband have two sons, Kevin and Keeth, three
granddaughters, and one grandson; and
WHEREAS, for twenty-seven years Mrs. Berry worked for Northwestern State
University Middle Laboratory School, where she worked alongside her husband before
retiring in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Berry was named the 2015 president of the Louisiana
Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO), which was nationally founded in 1869 by
seven pioneering women on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa;
and
WHEREAS, the PEO supports women in the realization of educational dreams
through educational philanthropy and sponsorship, scholarship, loan and grant programs, and
has grown a national membership of more than one million members; and
WHEREAS, along with holding numerous PEO chapter offices, including a PEO
international convention delegate, Mrs. Berry is a member of the First Baptist Church, the
Saint Denis Garden Club, co-chairman of the City of Lights Christmas parade, co-director
of the Miss Merry Christmas pageant, and a Natchitoches Service League member; and
WHEREAS, she is the state treasurer and chaplain for the Louisiana Jaycee Jaynes,
recipient of the Louisiana Outstanding Non-Instructional Award, and recipient of the Key
to the City of Natchitoches award for outstanding community service; and

WHEREAS, as Mrs. Berry continues her extraordinary service to her community,
she greatly enjoys spending time with her husband, family, friends, and enhancing her flower
arrangements, embroidery, and scrapbooking skills.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Margaret Berry upon being named president of the Louisiana
Philanthropic Education Organization by Chapter AG in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mrs.
Margaret Berry.
