SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 151
BY SENATOR MORRELL 
ABORTION.  Creates the Sex-Selection Abortion Task Force.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To create the Sex-Selection Abortion Task Force to study the gender ratio of babies born in
3 Louisiana and to ensure elimination of gender-based discrimination.
4 WHEREAS, currently there is no evidence that the practice of sex-selective abortion
5 is occurring in Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, there is general agreement that sex-selective abortion reinforces sex
7 discrimination and has no place in a civilized society or in the state of Louisiana.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
9 does hereby create the Task Force on Sex-Selective Abortion to study the gender ratio of
10 babies born in Louisiana and to ensure that steps are being taken to eliminate gender
11 discrimination and other discriminatory practices.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall be composed of the
13 following members:
14 (1) Two members of the Senate appointed by the president of the Senate.
15 (2) Two members of the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the
16 House of Representatives.
17 (3) The executive director of the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights, or her
18 designee.

1 (4) The secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals, or her designee.
2 (5) One representative from the office of the state registrar, appointed by the
3 secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals.
4 (6) One representative of a statewide organization that works to end gender
5 discrimination, appointed by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary B.
6 (7) One representative of a statewide organization that serves the Asian American
7 and Pacific Islander community in Louisiana, appointed by the chairman of the Senate
8 Committee on Judiciary B.
9 (8) Executive director of Louisiana Women's Policy and Research Commission, or
10 her designee.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall submit a written report of
12 findings to the Senate Committee on Judiciary B, the House of Representatives Committee
13 on Health and Welfare, and the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare no later than sixty
14 days prior to the 2016 Regular Session of the legislature.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the task force shall serve
16 without compensation, except per diem or expense reimbursement to which they may be
17 individually entitled.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall be abolished upon
19 submission of the final report to the legislature or on January 15, 2016, whichever occurs
20 later.
