2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 16 BY SENATOR JOHN SMITH A RESOLUTION To commend Virgie Sue Evans Prewitt Davis upon the occasion of her one hundredth birthday. WHEREAS, Virgie Sue Evans Prewitt Davis was born on April 24, 1915, in Leander, Louisiana, to Jesse Lee Evans and Martha Ann Terrell Evans; and WHEREAS, Miss Virgie and her family settled in Merryville, Louisiana, and she graduated from Merryville High School in 1934; and WHEREAS, she is the oldest living graduate of Merryville High School; and WHEREAS, Miss Virgie and Hall Prewitt exchanged their wedding vows on August 19, 1937, and were joined together for over fifty-two years until his passing in May of 1990; and WHEREAS, Hall was called to preach later in life and Miss Virgie was his dutiful partner as they moved throughout Texas and Louisiana spreading His word; and WHEREAS, she was recognized as an excellent cook known far and wide for her dumplings, biscuits, homemade bread, and especially her fried pies; and WHEREAS, Hall and Miss Virgie had five children together: Martha Sue Prewitt, Virgie Amesses Prewitt Smart, Amelia L. Prewitt Harwood, Hall Merwin Prewitt, and Jesse Lynn Prewitt; and WHEREAS, after the passing of her husband, Hall, she married Herman Davis of Anacoco in 1991; and WHEREAS, Miss Virgie has lived a full, eventful life of much joy and hardship but no regrets; and WHEREAS, her one hundredth birthday is on April 24, 2015.
