2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 174 BY SENATORS MORRISH AND PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for two hundred forty years of steadfast, determined, and courageous service. WHEREAS, the United States Army and the United States Army Corps of Engineers were formed by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775, and June 16, 1775, respectively, and for the ensuing two hundred forty years both have served the United States of America with great courage and distinction; and WHEREAS, both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have evolved greatly during their long and glorious existence, and both have adapted greatly in order to always accomplish their missions and serve this nation faithfully; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army is the largest branch of the Armed Forces of the United States that performs land-based military operations, and it has preserved the peace and security of this nation from its birth and defended it in perilous times; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Defense and a major Army command made up of over thirty-seven thousand civilian and military personnel; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army has remained a strong protector of this country, serving bravely, and never questioning its civilian oversight as it fought many times in conflicts such as the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Global War On Terror; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has played a major role in all of America's wartime struggles, but the Corps also became a leader in national flood control projects, a major provider of hydroelectric energy, and the major first responder to domestic natural disasters; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army is currently composed of the regular Army, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard, and with the adoption of the total force policy, reserve component soldiers have taken a more active role in U.S. military operations in the Gulf War, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 174 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers teams with the U.S. Army to support American forces in heavy combat areas with forward engineer support teams working in frontline positions with infantry and combat engineers; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have served this nation gallantly, on foreign shores and in the homeland, always placing the needs of the country and its people before their own. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its highest commendations for and sincerest congratulations to the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their glorious accomplishments and successes during a storied two hundred forty year history. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the chief of engineers and commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the secretary of the U.S. Army.
