2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20 BY SENATOR HEITMEIER A RESOLUTION To commend the 610 Stompers organization on its commitment to promote culture and support charitable organizations in the New Orleans area and to proclaim June 10, 2015, as "610 Stompers Day" in the Louisiana State Senate. WHEREAS, the 610 Stompers organized in the beginning of 2009 with the premise that a group of ordinary men, ranging in age from their twenties to their sixties, could, and should, entertain the world with their extraordinary dance moves; and WHEREAS, as a result of the success of the Saints' Super Bowl Championship season, which focused national attention on New Orleans and Mardi Gras, the 610 Stompers entertained the raucous crowds as they marched in the "Buddy D" parade and the "Lombardi Gras" Super Bowl parade; and WHEREAS, with national attention came the realization of the members that the 610 Stompers could use its amazing popularity to help others, and the group began choosing charities as fundraising partners for each 610 Stompers event; and WHEREAS, the 610 Stompers have donated funds to such varied charities as the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Louisiana Organ Procurement Association, the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans, Animal Rescue New Orleans, and the Youth Empowerment Project; and WHEREAS, since the founding of the 610 Stompers, the group has donated over a quarter of a million dollars to these wide variety of charities; and WHEREAS, the 610 Stompers have appeared in three prominent public service campaigns regarding crosswalk and bicycle safety in the greater New Orleans area; and WHEREAS, the 610 Stompers have also lent its talents to other community support campaigns, particularly those involving the New Orleans Hornets and the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 20 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the 610 Stompers' members, aware of their unique place in the landscape of New Orleans culture, donate countless hours volunteering in less visible capacities all in an effort to give back to their beloved city; and WHEREAS, the 610 Stompers have branched out to other areas of Louisiana and have performed in events and parades in Baton Rouge, Houma, Mandeville, and Norco; and WHEREAS, the extraordinary moves of the ordinary men of the 610 Stompers have entertained crowds at the New York City Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Washington Mardi Gras, and the Kentucky Derby's Pegasus Parade, all in the interest of representing and celebrating the culture and the people of New Orleans. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the 610 Stompers organization on its commitment to promote culture and support charitable organizations in the New Orleans area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that June 10, 2015, be proclaimed as "610 Stompers Day" in the Louisiana State Senate.
