2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 203 BY SENATOR CHABERT A RESOLUTION To commend Mae Rose Bourg Chiasson for more than sixty years as an educator. WHEREAS, after graduation from Larose-Cut Off High School, Mae Rose Bourg Chiasson matriculated at Nicholls State University where she received a bachelor of arts degree and a master's degree in reading and psychology that certified her as a reading specialist and supervisor of teaching; and WHEREAS, Ms. Chiasson began teaching at Galliano Elementary School in 1954 and spent twenty-three and one-half years as an elementary school classroom teacher; one of her former second grade students is state Representative Jerry "Truck" Gisclair; and WHEREAS, while at Galliano Elementary, Ms. Chiasson worked as a coordinator for two and one-half years and served as chairperson of the school's Steering Committee; and WHEREAS, from 1980 to the present time, Ms. Chiasson has taught second grade children at Holy Rosary Catholic School in Larose; she assisted Holy Rosary with its accreditation as well as visited committee members for evaluation; and WHEREAS, Ms. Chiasson has served as chairperson of the Career Education Program Language Arts Curriculum Guide for Lafourche Parish and Holy Rosary Catholic School, and as co-chairperson of the Teacher's Workshop Textbook Adoption Committee for Lafourche Parish and Holy Rosary Catholic School; she was also on the Report Card Revision Committee; and WHEREAS, her teaching credentials also include instruction in religion classes in Larose, Cut Off, and Galliano; Ms. Chiasson has been actively involved in professional and community organizations while teaching continuously since 1954; most incredibly, she intends to keep teaching: the 2015-2016 school year will mark sixty-two years as an educator for Mae Rose Bourg Chiasson; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 203 ENROLLED WHEREAS, despite the wealth of educational seeds planted in the minds of her students, Ms. Chiasson believes that her greatest achievements have been in successfully raising her family: daughter Kathleen; grandchildren Tara Sutton and Dallas Hunter; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ashlyn, John III, Cullen, Elle, and Evan; and WHEREAS, Ms. Chiasson has been quoted as saying that she loves teaching "because there is always something challenging and interesting to learn – and yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks"; and WHEREAS, the training of minds is a most noble profession, and for more than sixty years, Mae Rose Bourg Chiasson has shaped young thinkers into productive citizens, and it is appropriate to commend her dedication to her profession. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Mae Rose Bourg Chiasson for more than sixty years as an educator; does hereby express gratitude for the longevity of her career and her continued commitment to the children of the state; and does hereby extend best wishes and hopes for many more fruitful years of educational contributions.
