SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 219
BY SENATORS DORSEY-COLOMB, BROOME AND CLAITOR 
A RESOLUTION
To congratulate Linda Seale Chauviere on the occasion of her retirement as head of school
at St. James Episcopal Day School and to commend her for forty-six years of
dedication to the education of young people in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Linda Seale Chauviere was born in Baton Rouge to Virgil and Ruth
Seale; and 
WHEREAS, she graduated from Glen Oaks High School in 1965 and earned a
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in 1969; and
WHEREAS, while attending LSU, she met Arnold Chauviere and they married
shortly after her graduation; and
WHEREAS, while teaching full-time in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System
from 1969 until 1991, Mrs. Chauviere earned her Master of Education in Administration and
Supervision from LSU, as well as her Plus-Fifteen and numerous other education
certificates, distinctions, and honors; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Chauviere was selected as East Baton Rouge Parish School System
Teacher of the Year in 1979; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, she became a LEAP specialist for the East Baton Rouge Parish
School System and served in that capacity with distinction for six years; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, Mrs. Chauviere became a school administrator, serving as
principal at Prescott Middle School, assistant principal of instruction at Scotlandville Middle
Magnet School, and principal at Magnolia Woods Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, she left the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to serve
the state as director of the Distinguished Educator Program at the State Department of
Education; and
WHEREAS, shortly after retiring from the State Department, Mrs. Chauviere was
called to serve as the head of school for St. James Episcopal Day School in downtown Baton
Rouge; and

WHEREAS, during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mrs. Chauviere made sure
that displaced families had a place to send their younger children to school by opening up
enrollment at St. James and hiring additional teachers also displaced by the hurricane; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership, in 2009, St. James became the only private
elementary school in Louisiana history to be named a Blue Ribbon School by the United
States Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, with all her professional accomplishments, she is most proud of her
family, husband Arnold and son Kurt; and
WHEREAS, as a testament to her dedication to education and teaching abilities, Kurt
was valedictorian at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, graduated magna cum laude
in History from Harvard, and earned a law degree from Harvard, magna cum laude; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Chauviere is retiring from St. James Episcopal Day School in July,
after forty-six years of distinguished service in the field of education.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby congratulate Linda Seale Chauviere on the occasion of her retirement as head
of school at St. James Episcopal Day School and commend her for forty-six years of
dedication to the education of young people in Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Linda Seale Chauviere.
