2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 221 BY SENATOR CLAITOR A RESOLUTION To congratulate Robert W. "Bobby" Welch on the occasion of his retirement as president of The Dunham School in Baton Rouge and to commend him on over forty years of service in the field of education. WHEREAS, Robert W. Welch was born on July 23, 1945, in Vaiden, Mississippi, and graduated from Forest Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi; and WHEREAS, Bobby received a Business Administration degree from William Carey University, a Master of Arts in Education Administration from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and performed post-graduate studies at Harvard University, the University of West Florida, and Georgia Southern University; and WHEREAS, he is a veteran of forty plus years in education, with thirty years of his experience in independent private schools in the southeastern United States; and WHEREAS, Bobby is active in the National Association of Independent Schools, Southern Association of Independent Schools, and several other regional organizations, having served as Regional Director, Officer and Board Member for many of these groups; and WHEREAS, he also has been a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for ten years; and WHEREAS, he is the founder of the Louisiana Association of Independent Schools and currently serves as its executive director; and WHEREAS, for the last ten years, Bobby has served as headmaster and later president of The Dunham School in Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, under his leadership, Dunham has reached new heights in quality of education and won national acclaim as a Blue Ribbon School and as an Apple Distinguished School, while maintaining its academic philosophy of providing a Christian education that emphasizes not simply acquiring knowledge, but attaining wisdom, and that wisdom is knowledge shaped by the realization of where one stands in relationship to God and by the recognition that the order and beauty seen in the universe is the product of the Creator's Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 221 ENROLLED hand; and WHEREAS, Bobby has been married to the former Pamela Culler of High Point, North Carolina, for thirty-five years; and WHEREAS, they have five children: Angela, Jeff, Amy, Kip, and Charles; and fifteen grandchildren: Millie, Annie, Ellie, Jack, Wils, Sam, Jena Kate, Charlotte, Cade, Olivia, Josh, Andrew, Molly, Charlie, and Hudson; and WHEREAS, Bobby is retiring from his position as president of The Dunham School effective June 30, 2015, and plans to continue building an education consulting company after his retirement. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby congratulate Robert W. "Bobby" Welch on the occasion of his retirement as president of The Dunham School in Baton Rouge and commend him on over forty years of service in the field of education.
