SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 223
BY SENATOR CLAITOR 
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Louisiana State University Laboratory School football team upon winning
the 2014 Division II State Championship in Louisiana High School Athletic
Association competition and to congratulate the team and coaches on an exceptional
season.
WHEREAS, on December 5, 2014, the U High Cubs earned the title of Division II
State Champions after defeating Parkview Baptist by a score of 46-32 in the Allstate Sugar
Bowl/LHSAA State Championships at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, the championship win, a culmination of a remarkable journey for the
Cubs, was the third in school history and the first football title claimed by U High since
1988, long before any players on this year's roster were born; and
WHEREAS, this thrilling victory capped off one of U High's most outstanding
seasons with the team posting a perfect record of 13 wins and 0 losses and capturing the
District 7-3A championship along the way; and
WHEREAS, in capturing the title, the 2014 U High Cubs displayed the courage,
determination, fortitude, and desire of every championship team, while always upholding
the principles of good sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, under the tutelage of Head Coach Chad Mahaffey who was skillfully
assisted by Associate Coach Andy Martin and the other capable members of the coaching
staff, Burke Broussard, Nick Glueck, Blake Hollingsworth, Miles Landry, Michael Kennedy,
David Neubauer, James Piker, and Joe Womack, the team was propelled to lofty heights; and
WHEREAS, by providing the leadership and motivational skills necessary to produce
a winning spirit and instilling confidence in each individual, the coaching staff molded these
talented athletes into a championship-caliber team; and
WHEREAS, from the first team meeting until the final moment of play, the Cubs

lived, both on and off the field, by their mantra, "One Team, One Heartbeat", using it as the
catalyst to become one cohesive unit; and 
WHEREAS, never losing sight of their dream of winning the state football title, these
student athletes performed to their highest potential throughout the regular season and the
playoffs, and each member of the squad deserves special recognition for his contribution to
that triumphant effort and to the success of the LSU Lab School football program; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 U High Cubs, Will Abercrombie, Malik Antoine, Jalon Baker,
Ryan Bankston, Josh Becnel, Grant Bonnette, Brennan Boudreaux, Will Brooks, Nick
Brossette, Chase Brown, Josh Bruce, Jacob Bush, Jordan Davis, Mike Douglas, Adrian Ealy,
Hayden Franklin, Aidan Gale, Mark Gravois, Zach Gremillion, Logan Hall, Jack Hamilton,
Brendan Holliday, Tre Jackson, Laryon James, Jeremy Jetson, Austin Johnson, Daniel
Karam, Will Keller, Matt Lasalle, Adam Lewis, Ethan Macloud, Aaron Mall, Hunter
McGehee, Manny Miles, Khristian Mims, Davis Mitchell, Thomas Moore, Dylan Moses,
Titus Nelson, E J Oglesby, Tyree Patrick, Heath Pinell, Prince Pines, Tim Prather, Chris
Raymond, Eric Reed, Jake Rosenfeld, Grant Smith, B J Smothers, Grant Upton, Marshall
Vick, Rueul Walker, Caleb Webster, Vondero Weir, Jake Wharton, Sam Wharton, Cole
Whittington, and Dallas Wright, all forged together as one unit committed to excellence; and 
WHEREAS, the eleven seniors on this team merit the highest measure of praise as
they concluded their high school football careers having won four consecutive district
championships and having compiled a stellar win-loss record of 50-4, making them the
winningest class in the nearly one-hundred-year history of U High; and
WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting that these extraordinary young men are recognized
for their outstanding accomplishments; each of these well-deserved accolades and awards
was earned through the finest expression of teamwork, tenacity, and dedication to the sport
of football and to each other.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the LSU University High School football team on
winning the LHSAA Division II State Football Championship and does hereby recognize
the tremendous sense of honor and pride the team has brought to the school, its alumni, and
community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff involved with this outstanding
football program as they celebrate an exceptional season and prepare for continued success
in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to school
officials, Wade Smith, Superintendent of the LSU Laboratory School; Albert Camburn,
principal; Jill White, athletic director; and Chad Mahaffey, head football coach.
