SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 226
BY SENATOR MORRISH 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Dr. William J. Nunez III upon his retirement after forty-five years in higher
education and to recognize his dedication to Louisiana students.
WHEREAS, William J. Nunez III earned a bachelor's degree in zoology and
chemistry and a master's degree in microbiology and biochemistry from Louisiana State
University, and a doctorate in immunology/microbiology from the University of North
Texas; and
WHEREAS, for forty-five years, Dr. William J. Nunez III has been a leader in
academia and campus administration, rising through faculty ranks to serve as chancellor of
Louisiana State University-Eunice; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunez was named chancellor of LSU-Eunice in 1996 after serving
as a professor and chairman of Biology and Health Sciences at the University of Detroit, the
dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Missouri Western State University, and the vice
chancellor for Academic Affairs at Indiana University-Kokomo; and
WHEREAS, during Dr. Nunez's sixteen-year tenure as chancellor, LSU-Eunice
became a competitive regional institution that has earned the support and respect of the
community and the state; and
WHEREAS, LSU-Eunice has achieved reaccreditation twice under the leadership of
Dr. Nunez while the institution has grown in size, become more technologically advanced,
and increased its academic standards, and the university continues to provide critical access
to higher education for students in the Acadiana region; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunez created development and awards programs for LSU-Eunice
faculty and staff; he also implemented the Program Appraisal Process and the Advanced
College Program, which served as the precursor for the dual-enrollment program within the
Board of Regents; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the achievements of this outstanding
higher education administrator upon his retirement after forty-five years of service.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Dr. William J. Nunez III upon the occasion of his retirement after
forty-five years of service in higher education; does hereby express the gratitude of the
citizens of the state for his contributions to the learning and development of young minds;
and does hereby extend best wishes for a rich and full life in his retirement years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr.
William J. Nunez III.
