2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6 BY SENATOR MILLS A RESOLUTION To commend Jacques Laviolette upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate the accomplishments of Jacques Laviolette of Boy Scouts of America Troop 55 on the occasion of his attainment of the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young men to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness; and WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill all requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and the Eagle Scout must earn twenty-one merit badges which signify the mastery of Scoutcraft skills, including Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship in the World; and WHEREAS, in his scouting endeavors, as well as in life in general, Jacques has had excellent mentors and role models, including his older brother, Trey, who attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2012; his father, Bernard, who earned the rank of Eagle in 1985; and his mother, Nessie, who has served as assistant Cub Scout den mother; and WHEREAS, in addition to the merit badges he has earned in scouting, Jacques has been active in school activities beyond the classroom, attending St. Cecilia School in Broussard, Louisiana, through the spring of 2014 where he was a member of Junior Beta Club, an academic honorary club, was active in youth ministry, played golf, soccer, and baseball, and was awarded Christian Leader of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year; and WHEREAS, moving on to high school at Teurlings Catholic High School in Lafayette, Jacques has been a hard-working student, becoming involved in Christian retreats and class community service projects; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 6 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Jacques has been involved in his community outside of school and while at St. Cecilia, he participated in a class project of serving lunch to the homeless at St. Joseph's Diner; and WHEREAS, Jacques Laviolette was a member of a Broussard youth group, attended faith camp in 2012 and, also, attended various service projects with Broussard Scout Troop 55; and WHEREAS, Jacques is involved in his family life, being especially attentive to his ninety-year-old great-grandmother, visiting her weekly and helping her with yard work and household chores; and WHEREAS, Jacques manages to keep busy apart from school and scouting as he raises rabbits, mows lawns, catches crawfish in season, and works at his family's sugarcane farm when he is not in school; and WHEREAS, Jacques' accomplishment of earning the rank of Eagle Scout is but a part of the life he leads, helping his family and friends, serving his community, and learning every day to be the best person and citizen that he can be, a lofty goal, indeed. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Jacques Laviolette upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
