SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Victor Rushing on being named the Louisiana High School
Student of the Year and to recognize his extraordinary accomplishments.
WHEREAS, the Student of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by the Louisiana
State Superintendent through the State Department of Education and the State Board of
Elementary and Secondary Education; and
WHEREAS, the program recognizes those students who have demonstrated excellent
academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Victor Rushing is a senior at Live Oak High School in Denham Springs;
and
WHEREAS, he is an accomplished, classically trained pianist having played the
piano since he was in the first grade, and been the recipient of numerous superior ratings and
various honors at prestigious state and district music competitions; and
WHEREAS, Victor is a member of the following organizations: Beta Club, National
Honor Society, student council, National Society of High School Scholars, Mu Alpha Theta,
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Future Business Leaders of America; and
WHEREAS, he is the senior class president, student council president, serves as
chaplain for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is the manager for the baseball team;
and
WHEREAS, for the past four years Victor has been a volunteer for the Special
Olympics, and oversees the video broadcast system at Live Oak United Methodist Church;
and
WHEREAS, he founded a group of student mentors who tutor at-risk students, assist
them in succeeding academically, and encourage them to remain in school; and
WHEREAS, Victor plans to attend Tulane University on a legislative scholarship and
pursue a Juris Doctor degree at either Georgetown University Law Center or Yale Law
School; and

WHEREAS, Victor Rushing, the son of Dana and Jodi Rushing, is a talented
Louisiana student who demonstrates impeccable leadership and a commitment to excellence
that is truly commendable and deserving of being selected as Louisiana High School Student
of the Year.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Victor Rushing on being named the Louisiana High
School Student of the Year, does hereby recognize his extraordinary accomplishments, and
wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Victor Rushing.
