SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 80
BY SENATORS CROWE, THOMPSON AND WHITE 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, for positive economic
relations and friendship with the state of Louisiana and to encourage the continuation
and further strengthening of these ties.
WHEREAS, in 2014, Governor Bobby Jindal and a senior delegation from Louisiana
visited Taiwan highlighting the significance that the state of Louisiana places on this
important Asian market for Louisiana goods; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan and Louisiana have maintained a strong, friendly, and
long-standing relationship; and
WHEREAS, the relationship between Taiwan and Louisiana includes international
trade ties, investment ties, ports ties, and cultural ties; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan ranked as Louisiana's 32nd largest export market and its 46th
largest importer nation in 2014; and
WHEREAS, both exports and imports in 2014 between Taiwan and Louisiana
experienced more than a twenty percent increase over the previous year; and
WHEREAS, three companies from Taiwan have investments in Louisiana, namely,
Dexco Polymers L.P., Formosa Plastics Corporation, and Nan Ya Plastics Corporation of
America; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is a leading state in the United States in attracting foreign
direct investment; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana welcomes increased international investment and increased
trade with Taiwan; and
WHEREAS, the year 2015 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the sister-state
relationship between Taiwan and Louisiana and the thirty-fifth anniversary of the sister-city
relationship between the city of Taichung and the city of Baton Rouge; and

WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana welcomes reciprocal visits between the Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Texas, and the Louisiana Department of
Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana welcomes the Taipei Economic and Cultural
Office and other representatives from Taiwan to establish a presence in our state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, for its positive
economic relations and friendship with the state of Louisiana and hereby encourages the
continuation and further strengthening of these ties.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Louis
M. Huang, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Texas.
