2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 88 BY SENATOR MILLS A RESOLUTION To commend Michael Joseph Ducrest for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts of America. WHEREAS, Michael Ducrest is to be commended for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts of America Troop 55 at the age of thirteen; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young men to build character, train in the responsibilities of being a participatory citizen, and develop physical fitness and wellness; and WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill all requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor proficiencies; the scout must earn at least twenty-one merit badges to signify the mastery of Scoutcraft skills that include Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship in the World; and WHEREAS, with scouting and other life endeavors, Michael Ducrest has demonstrated natural abilities as a mentor and role model; he is a mentor to his fellow scouts and role model to his older brother Matthew, who also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of thirteen; and WHEREAS, Michael Ducrest is active in school organizations, attends Berchmans Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, where he earned academic achievement awards; he was a member of Berchmans Robotics Team that competed and placed at state level competitions; and WHEREAS, in 2013, Michael Ducrest participated in the National Scout Jamboree, held every four years in West Virginia, which gathers more than forty-five thousand Scouts over a ten-day period; and WHEREAS, he is a member of the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society for Scouting, having achieved the rank of Brotherhood, and will soon attend the National Order of the Arrow Conference at the 100th anniversary of the Order; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 88 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Michael Ducrest is a member-at-large of 4-H for St. Landry Parish, has attended numerous 4-H camps, and has participated in numerous service projects with the Broussard Boy Scout Troop 55; and WHEREAS, an integral part of the life of Michael J. Ducrest is earning the rank of Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts of America encouraging him to be of further support to his family and friends, serving his community, and learning the best practices of being a better person and citizen. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Michael Joseph Ducrest for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts of America.
